What are dark circles and why it occurs?

If you already do not know, the skin under your eyelids is referred to as ‘periorbital skin’. One of the most interesting facts regarding this part of your face is its thickness; 0.5 mm, which is way thinner than that of the skin covering the rest of the part of your body; which is 2mm thick on an average. As a result, sometimes the blood vessels beneath the periorbital skin appear clearly as compared to other body parts. The appearance of internal blood vessels through the periorbital skin tends to look darker, which is known as ‘dark circles’. Why do dark circles look dark? Now you may be wondering why the blood vessels under your eyelids appear dark, when the color of those vessels is red in real. Well, the skin tissue only allows blue/violet waves to pass through it, leading the eye bags to appear dark or bluish.
